Hyundai N Models (Including i30N) To Continue Outside Of Europe

Hyundai’s performance-oriented N models, the i20 N and i30 N, are far from reaching the end of their road, particularly outside Europe. Contrary to the recent announcement about the discontinuation of gasoline-powered N models in Europe, these hot hatches are set to continue thrilling drivers in several other markets, including New Zealand, the Middle East, South Africa, and notably, Australia.

In a significant development for Australian fans of these sporty vehicles, it was revealed that both the i20 N and i30 N are not only continuing their journey but are also slated for a mid-life update. This refresh promises to inject new life into these models, with Hyundai Australia transitioning to the production of these updated versions. “Those nameplates aren’t dead yet, for us especially,” highlighted the enthusiasm for the continued success and evolution of these models down under.

The imminent updates for the Australian market signal a period of anticipation. Hyundai Australia’s public relations manager, Guido Schenken, confirmed that while the current i30 N hatch is in run-out phase with no further orders being taken until the new model’s details are released, the i20 N remains available with an average delivery time of three to six months. This period varies based on factors such as color preference and the state of purchase. “But because we’ll become pretty much the dedicated market for those models, we’re going to have really healthy supply… we’re pleased by that,” said Rodgers, indicating a robust future for these models in Australia.

These updates are expected to be cosmetic and technological rather than complete overhauls. Potential enhancements include a design refresh with a new grille, updated wheels, and perhaps a new lighting signature, alongside technological upgrades like Hyundai’s Bluelink connectivity and advanced driver-assistance systems.

The anticipation for the refreshed models in Australia is palpable, with Rodgers teasing a reveal “really, really soon” and promising more precise timelines in the upcoming months. This strategic focus on Australia, as a primary market for the i20 N and i30 N, underscores Hyundai’s commitment to providing performance and innovation despite the shift towards electrification in other regions.

Hyundai Europe’s pivot away from internal combustion N models aligns with its goal of offering a zero-tailpipe-emission lineup by 2035. However, this move has opened new avenues for the N brand’s electrification strategy, promising an exciting future for high-performance electric vehicles (EVs). Despite this transition, the commitment to internal combustion engines remains strong in markets outside Europe, ensuring that the legacy of Hyundai’s N models will continue to evolve and thrive in the global automotive landscape.
