Is The Hyundai Elantra N Available In New Zealand?

The Hyundai Elantra N is, arguably, the ‘cream of the crop’ of the current petrol Hyundai N car range (and I say that as a satisfied i30N owner).

But is the Hyundai Elantra N available in New Zealand?

Unfortunately, at the moment it is not (and I’m not able to find any information that indicates Hyundai is going to start bringing the Elantra N in to the New Zealand market).

We have the i30N and the i20N, and will be getting the IONIQ 5 N as well, but the Elantra N doesn’t seem to feature in Hyundai’s NZ plans.

This is somewhat surprising, considering that it is available in Australia – with the very confusing name of the Hyundai i30 Sedan N (not to be confused with the normal i30N … goodness only knows why they didn’t keep the Elantra naming).

So for now, the Elantra N / Sedan N is not officially available in New Zealand.

I have seen one Elantra/Sedan N for sale in New Zealand, which was an import from Australia. I suspect we will start to see a few of these entering the market as used imports, one pathway being as repaired insurance write offs from Australia (this happens sometimes with hail damage, for example).

I’m not sure what the service support would be like in NZ for a ‘grey market’ import from Australia, but considering the engine and gearbox etc are largely the same it should be fine through a Hyundai main dealer but some trim parts, electronic items e.g. digital dashboard and so on may be challenging to have fixed.

I’ll post an update if Hyundai’s plans change and they start selling the Elantra N/Sedan N officially here.
